Don Herbert — An Appreciation
 Don Herbert recently passed away. For millions of children, like me, who grew up during the Space Age in front of black and white TVs, Don Herbert was Mister Wizard. For 30 minutes once a week he brought science directly into my house. He spoke to me, not at me. And despite his imposing title, he showed me — he showed all of us — that science was in fact not wizardry hidden behind magic, but rather an exciting and rewarding way to explore. The world was knowable, even for a child, and most especially for me, even for a girl. His experiments were ones we could perform; his knowledge something that we could share. For years he demonstrated that there was indeed an art to science and by his encouraging and patient demeanor he also showed us that he clearly understood the science of marketing, too.
